biography

Paolo Pecchioli studied voice with Nunzio Riggi and Mario Antonietti. He has also trained with many noteworthy artists including Renata Scotto, Carlo Bergonzi, Elio Battaglia, Leo Nucci,  Magda Olivero, and has worked with important pianists such as Vincenzo Scalera, Robert Kettelson and Giovanni Reggioli.

He began his career singing Don Tritemio in Il Filosofo di Campagna by G. B. Galuppi  with the Settimana Musicale Senese in Siena, Italy and has since debuted more than 45 principal roles in theatres around the world

On the opera stage, he has been seen in numerous Rossini roles: Alidoro at Opera Ireland conducted by Laurent Wagner and at Washington Opera conducted by Riccardo Frizza; Assur in Semiramide in Pisa in an acclaimed production by Stefano Vizzioli; Mustafà in L’italiana in Algeri in Novara and Pisa; Selim in Il Turco in Italia in Novara; Il Viaggio a Reims conducted by Nicola Luisotti in Il Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa; Orbazzano in Tancredi in Sassari as well as Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia in Sassari, Novara and Grange Park.   
Roles by Giuseppe Verdi include Zaccaria at Holland Park in London conducted by Brad Cohen; Ferrando in Il Trovatore in Ravenna in a production by Cristina Muti; Silva in Ernani also in Ravenna; Jérusalem conducted by Bruno Campanella at the Teatro Regio di Torino; Il Conte di Walter in Luisa Miller in Busseto conducted by Romano Gandolfi and in Como, Pavia and Piacenza; and numerous performances in various Italian cities and at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow of Aida directed by Franco Zeffirelli alternating between the roles of the King and Ramfis.
Other Italian bel canto roles include Oroveso in Bellini’s Norma in Murcia, Valencia and Trapani; Giorgio in I Puritani in Pamplona; Raimondo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor in Murcia; Dulcamara in Donizetti’s  L’elisir d’amore in Murcia and Ascoli; and the title role in Don Pasquale in Cosenza.
Among his most frequently performed roles is Colline in Puccini’s La bohème which he has done with Washington Opera, Opera Ireland, and the theatres in Novara and Mantua. In Puccini’s Tosca he has performed the roles of Angelotti and The Sagrestano in Baalbeq (Lebanon) Savona, Ascoli Piceno and Bangkok.
Roles by Mozart include Don Bartolo and Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro in Ascoli Piceno and in various cities in  Korea; Leporello and Masetto at the Liceu in Barcelona in a production by Calixto Bieito and in Vicenza; and Don Alfonso in Cosi fan tutte in Hanoi.
Other important stage highlights have been le philosophe in Massenet’s Chérubin at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari conducted by Emmanuel Villaume and directed by Paul Curran; Cardinal Campeggio in Henri VIII by Saint Saens at the Liceu in Barcelona alongside Monserrat Caballe; Don Bartolo in Paisiello’s Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Teatro Arcimboldi in Milan; Uberto in Pergolesi’s La Serva Padrona in numerous Italian cities; and Nettuno in Monteverdi’s Ritorno del Ulisse in Patria in Dresdan conducted by Alan Curtis.

In concert, he has sung many important roles including Gaudenzio in Rossini’s Il Signor Bruschino with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in Carnegie Hall in New York.  Also at Carnegie Hall he sang Conte Rodolfo in Bellini’s La Sonnambula with the Opera Orchestra of New York with Eve Queler conducting.
At the Auditorium in Milan with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano G. Verdi he sang the role of Talpa in Puccini’s Il Tabarro under the baton of Riccardo Chailly. In the same venue with Romano Gandolfi he sang the Stabat Mater of Rossini, a piece he has also sung under the direction of Paolo Olmi in Ravenna with the London Symphony Orchestra. Additionally with Maestro Olmi he has sung Rossini’s Petite Messe Solonelle, the role of Pistola in Verdi’s Falstaff with the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the role of Ping in Puccini’s Turandot.
Other special concert appearances were the title role in Verdi’s Attila in Aquilea (Italy), the Verdi Requiem in Prague and St. Louis; the role of Tirésias in Stravinsky’s Oedipus Rex conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen; and the Mozart Requiem in Ravenna and Florence
 
In 2006 he recorded Alidoro in La Cenerentola  for Sony Classical with M° Carlo Rizzi and the Műnchner Rundfunk Orchester. Fellow artists in this live concert recording were Vesselina Kasarova and Vladimir Chernov. His other recordings on the market sings include the King in the celebrated Verdi centennial DVD of Aida directed by Franco Zeffirelli and, on a different note, the world premiere of Jazz Te Deum and Sacred Concert by jazz musician and composer Giorgio Gaslini.
Most recently he was seen as Colline across America in the simulcast of the innovative and modern La bohème from Washington Opera in September of 2007 conducted by Emmanuel Villaume and directed by Mariusz Trelinski.

At  the moment, he is singing the role of Alidoro in a production of Cenerentola at the Spoleto Festival in South Carolina U.S.A
